The former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif has been sentenced to seven years of imprisonment owing to corruption charges.
There were two charges of corruption against Sharif, and he has been found guilty on one of these charges and has been punished with 7 years in jail for the same.
The verdict was passed by an anti corruption court who tried and charged Sharif on grounds of corruption. According to the court, Sharif who had been PM thrice, was unable to provide evidence of income source behind a steel mill located in Saudi Arabia.
Earlier this year, Sharif had been sentenced to 10 years in jail by the same anti corruption court for having purchased upscale homes in London, without income to account for it.
He was released in September following the same. Now, he has been cleared of all charges except the ones related to the steel mills in Al Azizia.
It has also come to light that Nawaz Sharif’s political party will be taking the verdict very seriously. Judge Muhammad Arshad Malik of the anti corruption court based in Islamabad passed the verdict.
However, Sharif had mentioned that his conscience was clear for he had not anything wrong. Details are still pouring in, stay tuned for more updates.
