Freedom 251 has undoubtedly created a revolution in the mobile phone industry by claiming that they have made available a smartphone with android features and a year warranty at just Rs. 251. Now when the price is damn unbelievable, it’s natural for people to go crazy for the phone regardless of whether they love gadgets or even need a phone or not! Obviously, who would like to let such an incredible offer just go without availing themselves of it.

But if we analyze the price of this smartphone from the perspective of tech specialists, it’s next to impossible to make it available with nice specifications at dirt cheap prices, no matter whatever subsidy amount government offered for it.
In the words of Aseem Manchanda, a tech journalist, “Indian Cellular Association has complained to Telecom Ministry to look into depth on claims made by company (Ringing Bell). Indian Cellular Association says minimum price for 3G phone is Rs 2700. It is not possible to offer phone at Rs 251.”

According to tech experts, price of such a smartphone can’t be less than Rs. 3,500 and the price introduced by the company might give shock to the whole smartphone industry. Even if all the products required for manufacturing it are bought from the cheapest supply chain, its price will be around Rs. 2,700 and when it will be launched in the retail market, its cost will be a minimum of Rs. 4,100 adding all the taxes and margins.
Something fishy was sensed by journalists who were present at the event as sample smartphones they got to assess were looking not more than Chinese phone Adcom Ikon 4’s rebranded version and whitener could be seen above Adcom’s logo.
