India is celebrating its 73rd Independence Day today (August 15) and this is the sixth time that PM Narendra Modi has addressed the nation from the Red Fort, New Delhi.

Many people have laid their lives and a number of sacrifices have been made in order to attain freedom from the Britishers. The present generations should value our freedom and work constantly to make our country proud.

This Independence Day is quite special for the country as it is the first Independence Day after Article 370 has been scrapped. Article 370 provided special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir and there were reports that militants can try to create an unpleasant situation. However, our security agencies have left no stone unturned in ensuring that the people of Jammu & Kashmir can celebrate their Independence Day peacefully.

Several opposition parties opposed this move of PM Modi and questioned the manner in which Article 370 was abolished. In fact, the leaders of regional political parties of Jammu and Kashmir went on to say that the consequences of this step will be very devastating in the future. The neighbouring country Pakistan has also condemned this move of the Indian government and has been trying to get international support on this matter but failed miserably.
