The Indian cricket team has once again lost the chance of winning an ICC trophy as it got defeated in the WTC final which it played against Australia at the Oval, London. This is the second time that India has lost the WTC final, the first one was lost to New Zealand.
The Indian cricket team has been performing well in bilateral series but it is not able to repeat its success in the multi-nation or ICC events. Many former cricketers were already not happy with the exclusion of Ravichandran Aswhin from the WTC final and the manner in which the Indian batters batted in the match, it further aggravated them a lot.
Recently during an interaction, the former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has shed his opinion on the present condition of the Indian cricket. He says that not many people will say this but he will say this as it is the truth and truth should come out in front of everyone. He adds that India is not a team-obsessed country, it is an individual obsessed country and individuals are considered greater than the team. Gambhir further says that on the other hand, in other cricketing countries such as New Zealand, Australia, England, etc., the team is greater than the individual.
He goes on to say that unfortunately all the stakeholders of the Indian cricket are currently acting as the PR agent of the Indian cricket team. He stated that only three people are shown by them all the day and if two people, suppose he and the other player have scored 50, then they will showcase only him because of which people will think that he is a star and the other one is an underrated player.
Gambhir further asks who makes a player underrated, it is the broadcasters, social media and experts who make a player underrated despite the fact that both the players have worked hard. He concludes by saying that the fact is that the Indian cricket team hasn’t won any ICC trophy for quite a long time because our country is obsessed with individuals and not the team.
