Islam is famous for its ‘Triple-Talaq’ law; yes, in this, the husband has the right of divorcing his wife 3 times, by saying Talaq once for the 1st time, twice for the 2nd time and thrice for the 3rd and last time. For women, it is surely an issue to worry, isn’t it? Many a times, there are headlines about Muslim men giving divorce to wives through a letter, a text message or a phone call, which is just so BAD!
Muslim women always have that insecurity and fear in their minds that if something goes wrong, the husband would divorce them. But amidst all this, there is one woman who turned this law upside down.
Mohsina, a 19 year old girl from Uttar Pradesh’s Daha, said Talaq, Talaq, Talaq to her hubby and put an end to their sacred relation of marriage. Just few days back, Mohammed Arif and Mohsina had got married, but who knew that such a thing would happen.
Now in the village, a diktat was passed by Khap Panchayat which stated that taking or even demanding dowry is illegal. Mohammed Sattar, the father in-law of Mohsina put extreme pressure on her and started demanding dowry. Mohsina then thought of informing this incident to her widowed mom, who asked her to come back home.
Now, her father in law and her husband made a request for calling the Panchayat for resolving this issue. In front of 500 people, Arif called up Mohsina and started apologizing; he had kept phone on speaker so that everyone could hear. However, Mohsina wasn’t going to fall in the trap once again; she blatantly said Talaq thrice and hung up the phone.
As a punishment by the Panchayat, Arif cannot marry for the next 3 years. Although in Islam, women don’t have the right for divorcing husbands with ‘Triple-Talaq’, Mohsina got support from the panchayat.
Maulana Mohammad Farman, the Jama Masjid’s Imam stated that this was an official divorce now. He added “The village elders heard it. The bride and the groom identified each other on the mobile phone. A community is free to ostracise a greedy family.”
