Once again, Hyderabad has beaten Mumbai and Delhi, to become the best Indian city in terms of standard of living. Yes, this Quality of Living Rankings 2017 report was prepared by Mercer, a consultancy firm. For Hyderabadis, it is indeed a proud moment, because this has happened for the 3rd time in a row.
This was a global list, which covered 231 cities and Vienna (Austria) has topped it. Hyderabad has acquired the 144th position, as opposed to 139th position last year; however, the rankings are better than that of Mumbai (154) and Delhi (161).

Hyderabad has got this position due to its better choice of educational institutions, low air pollution, low crime rate and efficient police force.
The report reads,
“In comparison with other metros in the country, Hyderabad offers a cosmopolitan environment and a higher standard of living at more affordable rates. The city’s International schools also offer good-quality education at a cost that is only one-third of of what is charged by schools in Mumbai and New Delhi.”
Sadly, Hyderabad ranks low in terms of civic amenities and infrastructure.
Although New Delhi has fared positively in terms of availability of International schools, good airport facility and low possibility of natural disaster, it has scored negatively in terms of crime rate, water availability, growing traffic and air pollution.
Even Pune and Chennai scored better than Mumbai and Delhi, thanks to the English speaking schools, International schools, less air pollution, expat housing, good public transport and low crime rate. However, one thing worth noting is that these Indian cities haven’t seen much improvement in the quality of living since last year. If you compare this report with that of last year’s, you’ll hardly find any difference.
