“Gurudakshina,” Rishabh Pant Gifting POTM Champagne To Ravi Shastri Leaves Twitter In Splits

The Indian cricket team won the 3-match ODI series against England after defeating the hosts in the third and the final match of the series by 5 wickets and the major credit of this win goes to Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya.

The match was played at Old Trafford Cricket Ground, Greater Manchester, and after winning the toss, Rohit Sharma asked the hosts to bat first. The decision of Hitman was justified by Mohammed Siraj who dismissed Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root in the same over and both the English batters were not even able to open their accounts.

There was a time when England was reeling at the score 12/2 but Jason Roy (41 runs, 31 balls, 7 fours) along with Ben Stokes (27 runs, 29 balls, 4 fours) stabilized the innings and the English skipper Jos Buttler played a captain innings of 60 runs (80 balls, 3 fours & 2 sixes). With the help of some useful contributions by Moeen Ali (34 runs, 44 balls, 2 fours & 2 sixes), Liam Livingstone (27 runs, 31 balls, 2 fours & 2 sixes) and Craig Overton (32 runs, 33 balls, 1 four & 1 six), England managed to put up a total of 259 runs on the score board with almost four overs remaining in its innings.

The Indians also had a disappointing start as Shikhar Dhawan got out for just 1 run and Rohit Sharma also didn’t stay for long as he got out on 17 runs (17 balls, 4 fours). The former skipper Virat Kohli’s poor run didn’t end as he got out on 17 runs (22 balls, 3 fours) and Suryakumar Yadav also returned to pavilion pretty soon after scoring 16 runs (28 balls, 1 four).

The Indian team was in a pretty problematic situation as it had lost 4 wickets at the score of 72 but then Hardik Pandya arrived on the crease to give company to Rishabh Pant. They both played wonderful and fearless cricket as Pant scored a century (125 runs not out, 113 balls, 16 fours & 2 sixes) and Hardik Pandya scored 71 runs (55 balls, 10 fours), thanks to which India successfully chased the target with almost 8 overs remaining in its innings. Hardik Pandya contributed not only with the bat but he also took 4 important wickets, including the wicket of Liam Livingstone who was looking quite dangerous at one point of time. Pandya Junior also dismissed the English skipper Jos Buttler, English test skipper Ben Stokes and Jason Roy.

While Rishabh Pant was adjudged as the Player of the Match, Hardik Pandya was declared the Player of the Series.

Rishabh Pant was also given a bottle of champagne along with the medal and a video is going viral on the Internet in which Pant is seen offering champagne to the former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri who he accepted it. Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan also offered a bottle of champagne to Ravi Shastri but he refused.

While Indian fans are happy that India has won the ODI series after winning the T20I series, Ravi Shastri must have had a good time 😉
