Harry Brook appears to be leaving the door open for a return to the IPL after previously making it clear that his focus would remain on England and The Hundred. The England men’s white-ball captain said on Thursday that representing his country is still his main priority. However, he also described the IPL as a major competition that gives players valuable experience and helps them improve. Harry Brook added that he would certainly consider entering the IPL auction again in the future.
Harry Brook is currently banned from playing in the IPL until 2027 under BCCI rules. The ban came after he withdrew from the 2025 season despite being selected in the auction. Since taking over as England captain, Harry Brook has repeatedly stressed his commitment to international cricket. As recently as last month, he had said that he was completely committed to England and did not intend to play franchise cricket apart from The Hundred.
Speaking to a cricket portal on the sidelines of the 2026 Hundred season, Harry Brook said that his priority remains playing as much cricket as possible for England. At the same time, he acknowledged that the future could bring changes to his plans. He then spoke positively about the IPL, calling it a great competition and a valuable experience. According to Harry Brook, players often return from the tournament as better cricketers, which is why he would seriously consider taking part again when he becomes eligible.
Interestingly, Harry Brook is still playing for the Sunrisers in England’s domestic competition. The IPL franchise’s owners have taken over the Northern Superchargers and renamed the team Sunrisers Leeds. Harry Brook admitted that the change has brought some differences, especially with the new ownership and the increased presence of the team’s orange branding around the ground, including the Range Army.
However, he said the transition is similar to what happens with any franchise. His approach has been to get to know his new teammates quickly, build strong relationships and work together with the main aim of winning matches.
For now, England remains Harry Brook’s biggest priority but his latest comments suggest that an IPL comeback could be on the cards once his ban ends in 2027.
