Bhartiya Janta Party has received a huge blow as it has lost 50 seats out of 58 in Uttar Pradesh Panchayat polls in the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency, Varanasi. In 2014, Uttar Pradesh played a major role in the victory of BJP in the Lok Sabha elections and just after one year, the Panchayat election results are a huge setback for the party.
The final results are still awaited as the counting is going on, BJP has won 4 out of 28 seats in Lucknow, which is the constituency of Home Minister Rajnath Singh, and in Union Minister Kalraj Mishra’s constituency Deora it has lost 49 out of 56 seats.
BJP wanted to attract the rural voters as assembly elections will take place in UP in 2017. On the other hand, SP has performed reasonably well while BSP has made a good comeback.
The question that needs to be asked in whether the Modi magic has lost his sheen, BJP has been totally dependent on PM Modi when it comes to winning elections, so is it really the correct time for them to look for someone in UP to make them victorious.
PM Modi has been facing a lot of criticism on many issues in the recent past and it seems that the Dadri incident has made a dent in the image of PM, as he chose to remain silent on the matter for too long. He hasn’t said anything on the returning of awards by the writers, scientists and historians, and it seems that the public is not happy with this silence.
