All eyes are on young batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as he prepares for what could be a memorable first appearance for India’s senior team. The teenage opener has been included in India’s squad for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England, marking another major step in his rapidly rising cricket career.

However, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s tour of the United Kingdom will come with special arrangements because of safeguarding regulations that apply to minors. Since he is only 15 years old, he is classified as an under-16 player under the rules followed by cricket authorities in the UK.
According to these regulations, players below the age of 16 are not permitted to share changing rooms or shower facilities with adult cricketers. As a result, separate facilities will be made available for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi throughout the tour.
The rule is part of the safeguarding framework established by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). Compliance with these regulations is overseen by the independent Cricket Regulator along with safeguarding officers at individual venues. These officials ensure that all required standards are followed before matches and tours take place.
Despite the restrictions, the young opener will continue to be fully involved in all team-related activities. He will attend team meetings, tactical discussions, warm-up sessions and other match-day events alongside his teammates. The regulations only apply when players are changing into cricket gear or using shower facilities.
In those situations, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will either use a private room designated for him or access the main changing area at a time when no adult players are present. The arrangements are designed to meet safeguarding requirements while allowing him to remain fully integrated with the squad.
Reports have also clarified that the International Cricket Council (ICC) has no role in these regulations. Since the India-England series is a bilateral contest and not an ICC-managed tournament, the governing body does not enforce any specific rules related to under-16 cricketers in this case. The requirements stem from UK safeguarding laws and local cricket policies.

Cricket Ireland has confirmed that similar procedures will be followed when India tours Ireland. The organisation stated that the Indian team has been provided with three separate rooms in the pavilion and has been informed about all safeguarding obligations. Cricket Ireland added that the BCCI will manage the arrangements in line with UK law and established best practices.
As excitement builds around Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s future, the teenager is preparing for a landmark tour under circumstances few international cricketers have experienced before.
