PM Modi met Trump in the US to have discussions about trade, terrorism, energy and dinner. It was a 2 day trip and Modi was also invited for a “Working dinner” at white house. Apart from Trump, our PM met CEOs of top companies and then left for Amsterdam.
We Indians have a tradition i.e. “Khaali haath nahi jaana”; whenever we visit someone, we ensure that we take some gift for them. It’s actually considered to be a polite gesture; since everyone follows this tradition, how can our PM stay back in such cases?
When he met President Trump and his wife Melania Trump, he took many gifts for them. Eager to what all he gifted them? According to reports by ANI, the PM gifted Melania a traditional handcrafted Himachali silver bracelet, hand woven shawls from Jammu and Kashmir, and honey and tea from Kangra valley.
Wait, the list is not over yet. He presented Trump with a special wooden chest from Hoshiarpur (Punjab). These are not normal chests but are the ones having intricate patterns and designs on them.
If that was not it, our PM also gifted the US president with an original commemorative postage stamp. It is a very special one that was issued by India in 1965, for marking the death centenary of Abraham Lincoln.
It is said that the stamp represents the closeness between Mahatma Gandhi and Abraham Lincoln.

Since Modi gave him so much, even Trump returned the favor. As a way to thank him, Trump gave him a guided tour of White House quarters and also showed him Lincoln’s bedroom. Along with that, Modi got to see Lincoln’s Gettyburg address and the desk on which he wrote that.
