In 2015, Salman Khan starrer Bajrangi Bhaijaan hit the theatres and turned into one of the biggest blockbusters of his career. Loved by audiences and critics alike, the film featured a heartfelt storyline and one of the most memorable performances of Salman. However, what many people don’t know is that the story first came to Aamir Khan.
Aamir who is currently preparing for the release of his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par recently shared that when he first heard the story of Bajrangi Bhaijaan, he felt that it was meant for Salman. He didn’t hesitate to suggest to screenwriter V. Vijayendra Prasad that Salman Khan should be cast in the lead. Aamir believed Salman’s personality and presence was a perfect match for the role and he stepped away from the project without a second thought.
In an interview, Aamir discussed various films he chose not to do. When asked about the 2000 film Josh, he dismissed the topic humorously, hinting that it was not a project he actively rejected. Regarding Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Aamir clarified that he was never offered the film and believed Shah Rukh Khan was always the right choice for it.
Returning to Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Aamir explained that the script was first brought to him and he immediately recommended taking it to Salman Khan. He also revealed that instead of approaching Salman Khan directly, V. Vijayendra Prasad first met director Kabir Khan with the story and Kabir then contacted Salman.
Directed by Kabir Khan, Bajrangi Bhaijaan starred Salman Khan alongside Harshaali Malhotra, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The film tells the moving story of Pavan, a compassionate man determined to reunite a lost, mute Pakistani girl with her family. His journey across borders, filled with emotional and moral challenges, made the movie a major hit and earned it a special place in the hearts of many.
