When all the road seems to be blocked, then comes the silver lining. This is exactly what happened with Venkatraman who could not withstand the misery of an old woman and become the silver lining in her life and then for many.
“One day a woman from a Government hospital came to buy idlis for Rs 10. Since there were no idlis that day, she went away disappointed. She didn’t have extra money to buy something else to feed her ailing husband. That’s when I realized that there are people who actually survive on only Rs 10 a day”
Mr. Venkatraman did not think of becoming a messiah to the poor but just a human being who do not wish people starving to death because of the scarcity of food. Erode town, which is 500km away from Chennai which became the place for his Shri AMV Homely Mess, that provides food to the needy ones.
This scheme of his has helped many people and he feels that he is blessed to even contribute in such a small way in the society. What is even more great about the restaurant is that they charge Rs.40 from those who can afford which also goes into helping the poor.
