Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s age has become one of the biggest talking points surrounding the young Indian cricketer but former Australia pacer Brett Lee believes his talent is what truly matters.
Brett Lee said that people outside India are constantly questioning whether Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is really 15 years old. However, he believes that even if the batter is older than his reported age, it does not take away his ability or the bright future he has ahead of him.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made a huge impact during the IPL 2026, showing that he was not intimidated by big names or the reputation of the bowlers he faced. His fearless batting, wide range of shots and exceptional bat speed made him one of the most talked about young players of the tournament. His impressive IPL campaign also earned him a quick call-up to India’s T20I side.
Although Vaibhav Sooryavanshi had a quiet beginning to his international career during the series against England, he responded strongly on India’s tour of Zimbabwe. He ended the series as the Player of the Series, showing his ability to bounce back from setbacks and perform at the highest level despite his young age.
Speaking on a YouTube channel, Brett Lee said the age debate has become a major talking point around the world. However, he stressed that whether Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is 15, 17 or 18 should not overshadow the fact that he is an exceptional cricketer.
According to Brett Lee, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been a fantastic discovery for Indian cricket and has the potential to achieve much bigger things in the future. The former Australian cricketer also praised the youngster’s maturity and fearless approach, particularly against some of the fastest bowlers in the IPL.
Brett Lee pointed to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s impressive 97-run knock against Sunrisers Hyderabad as an example. During that innings, the young batter faced Australian bowlers bowling at extreme pace but still took them on fearlessly, including playing aggressive hooks against deliveries aimed at him.
While Brett Lee has been impressed by rapid rise of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, he believes the biggest challenge for the youngster could now be handling the enormous attention and expectations that have come with his success.
After lighting up the IPL in such a short period, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has already attracted global attention. For Brett Lee, however, the most important thing is not his age but the fact that India appears to have found a highly talented young cricketer who could serve the country for many years to come.
