“I’d Beat Him Up At Ground & Then At Hotel,” Shoaib Akhtar On Sehwag’s “Baap Baap Hota Hai” Remark

The India-Pakistan rivalry is famous not only on borders but also on the cricket field and it was at its peak when former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and former Pakistani player Shoaib Akhtar used to represent their countries. While Sachin is one of the best batsmen that the world has ever seen, Shoaib’s name will always be included in the list of the fastest bowlers of the globe.

The contest between these two iconic cricketers was certainly no less than a treat for cricket lovers and the person who used to see this contest from the best place is former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag. There was a time when Viru used to open the innings with Little Master and watch the contest from the non-striker end. Sometimes, sledging also used to take place but Sachin being a gentleman cricketer always preferred to reply with his bat.

However, Virender Sehwag had no problem in getting engaged in verbal duel with the players of the opposition team and there is one such incident in which Viru said to Shoaib Akhtar, “Baap Baap hota hai, beta beta hota hai” ( A father is always a father while a son will always remain a son). In simple words, Viru wanted to convey that son can’t dominate father.

Virender Sehwag talked about this incident in an award show which he attended in 2010. However, the Pakistani pacer denied it completely and went on to say that former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir can confirm that no such incident took place.

Recently when he was asked about it by a Pak journalist, the Rawalpindi Express said that if this had happened, he would have beaten Sehwag on the ground first and then in hotel also. Shoaib Akhtar claimed that Sehwag wouldn’t have survived if he had made a statement like this.

As per Sehwag, this incident happened in a match which was played in Pakistan and the Delhi batsman was batting near the score of 200 while Little Master was at the non-striker end. Viru said that the Pakistani pacer was tired after bowling many overs so he started throwing bouncers. It was then that Shoaib asked Viru to hit a six on his bowling; the latter responded by indicating towards Sachin Tendulkar and said, “Woh toh tera baap khada hai, usko daal woh marega” (Your father is standing there, bowl him he will hit you).

Sachin did exactly what Sehwag said, the Mumbai batsman hit a six as Shoaib Akhtar bowled him a bouncer and then Sehwag said to Shoaib, “Beta beta hota hai, baap baap hota hai”.
