The Indian men’s cricket team captain Rohit Sharma who has been struggling with poor form recently made a significant decision on Friday, January 3, by opting out of the ongoing fifth Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground. His absence from the match fueled speculation about his potential retirement from Test cricket. However, the 37 years old right-handed batter addressed these rumours in a conversation with former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan on Saturday, providing clarity about his future.
Rohit explained that his choice to step away from the fifth Test was directly related to his recent struggles with form. He made it clear that he is not retiring from the longest format, he has just stepped away from this test match.
While speaking with Irfan Pathan and Jatin Sapru, Rohit Sharma said, “Which way am I going? Look, as I told you this decision is not a retirement decision. There is no such decision. But I am out of this game (5th Test) because things are not working. There is no guarantee that things will not work after 5 months. I have seen a lot in cricket, every day, every minute life changes. So I have this belief in myself that things will change but at the same time I have to be realistic as well).”
He further added, “A person sitting inside with a mike or with a laptop or with a pen, what he writes, what he says, it does not change our life. I am a sensible man, a mature man, I am a father of 2 children, so I have a little brain. What do I need in life.”
