It is after 20 yrs that India has defeated New Zealand in the World Cup as the last time the Kiwis tasted defeat at the hands of the Indians was in the 2003 World Cup. The match was quite a hyped one as both the teams had won all the 4 matches before this game and everyone expected a tough contest.

However, there was one thing that was quite unique about this match. Many times we have heard that the match got halted due to rain but this match was stopped for some time because of fog.

As the fog created trouble for the match, Twitterati got active and here are some selected reactions:

As far as the match is concerned, the Indian team decided to bowl first after winning the toss and Indian bowlers proved this decision correct by dismissing both the openers – Devon Conway (0) and Will Young (17 runs) quite early. However, Rachin Ravindra (75 runs) and Daryl Mitchell (130 runs) batted brilliantly and produced a partnership of 159 runs for the third wicket but after they both got out, wickets started falling regularly and the whole team got out for 273 runs in their 50 overs.

While Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj took 1-1 wicket each, Kuldeep Yadav dismissed two batters but the pick of the bowlers for India was Mohammed Shami who took 5 wickets and he was also awarded with Player of the Match award for his bowling performance.

India started well as skipper Rohit Sharma (46 runs) and Shubman Gill (26 runs) stitched a partnership of 71 runs for the first wicket. Though Shreyas Iyer (33 runs) and KL Rahul (27 runs) were not able to convert their good start into big scores yet Virat Kohli once again proved his masterclass and played a blistering knock of 95 runs for which he played 104 balls and his innings included 8 fours & 2 sixes. Ravindra Jadeja played a useful knock of 44 runs too and he remained unbeaten till the end.

India won the match by 4 wickets with 12 balls remaining in their innings, though every Indian fan is a little unhappy because Virat Kohli failed in completing his century yet the happiness of winning the match has certainly made up for it.
