The Indian Premier League (IPL) is one of the most popular and loved tournaments of the cricket world and it won’t be a hyperbole to say that every year, fans eagerly wait for the league to be held. However, organizing the IPL 2024 will be a challenge for the Board of Control for Cricket in India because of the T20 World Cup 2024 and Lok Sabha elections. Due to these challenges, the BCCI may need to decrease the time period of the IPL 2024 or it may need to relocate some matches or complete the IPL 2024 outside the country.
The IPL 2024 may start from 22 March and it will get over by 19 May as it is the window which has been allotted by the ICC and there is no chance of rescheduling which means that just after the India-England test series, the players will need to prepare themselves for the T20 tournament.
The Lok Sabha elections are expected to take place in May-June because of which the security forces and police force won’t be able to provide security for the IPL matches and this is also going to be a big concern for the BCCI.
Needless to say, the BCCI wants to organize the tournament in India but if things don’t go as per their plans, then UAE is one location where the IPL may get shifted. Moreover, the board also has the option of shifting the second half or play-off stage to West Indies and USA which will give the players a chance to get acquainted with the conditions before the big event.
As of now, the BCCI is just focusing on the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 which is going to be played in India from 5 October and it will make strategies regarding the IPL 2024 in December-January.
Let’s see whether the IPL 2024 will be played in India or somewhere else.
