The countdown to the next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has not officially begun in full swing but questions about the availability of some of Australia’s biggest cricket stars have already started making headlines. One name attracting attention is left-arm fast bowler Mitchell Starc, who is currently part of the Delhi Capitals (DC) squad.
In a recent interview, Mitchell Starc revealed that his participation in the IPL 2027 has not been decided yet. The Australian pacer said he had held discussions about the matter but no final decision had been made.
Delhi Capitals signed Mitchell Starc for Rs 11.75 crore at the IPL mega auction in 2024. However, the franchise may have to wait before knowing whether the experienced fast bowler will be available for the upcoming season.
Mitchell Starc’s busy international schedule could be the main reason behind the uncertainty surrounding his availability for the IPL 2027. If he is fully fit and selected, Mitchell Starc is expected to be part of Australia’s Test squad for the tour of India scheduled from January 21 to March 3, 2027. Soon after that series, Australia are set to play a one-off Test against England to celebrate 150 years since the first Test match between the two countries.
With the IPL 2027 also likely to begin around the same period, Mitchell Starc could face a packed cricket calendar. Managing his workload and international commitments may therefore play an important role in his decision.
Mitchell Starc has been playing professional cricket since making his first-class debut in 2009. He made his international debut the following year and entered the IPL in 2014. The left-arm pacer represented Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the 2014 and 2015 IPL seasons. After those two campaigns, he stayed away from the tournament for nearly a decade to focus on his international career with Australia.

Mitchell Starc returned to the IPL in 2024 and made a significant contribution to Kolkata Knight Riders’ title-winning campaign. Following that season, he became part of the Delhi Capitals squad. For now, his participation remains unconfirmed. His upcoming international commitments, the demanding schedule and the timing of the IPL 2027 could all influence his decision.
Delhi Capitals will be hoping to have the experienced Australian pacer available for the tournament but fans will have to wait for an official confirmation about his plans for the next season.
