Mumbai Indians are going through a tough phase in the IPL 2026. The five-time champions are currently sitting in ninth place, with just 3 wins from 10 matches. For a team known for strong comebacks, this season has been far from ideal.

One of the biggest concerns has been Jasprit Bumrah’s form. Known as MI’s biggest match-winner, the star pacer has struggled this season. In 10 matches, he has taken only 3 wickets and conceded 329 runs. These numbers are quite surprising, especially considering his past performances.
Last season, Jasprit Bumrah picked up 18 wickets in just 12 matches with an impressive economy rate of 6.7 but this time, things have not gone his way. His bowling average has gone above 100 and he has been more expensive than usual. Former Indian pacer Irfan Pathan also shared his concern, pointing out that it is unusual and disappointing to see a bowler of Bumrah’s level struggle like this, especially after his strong performance in the T20 World Cup.
Jasprit Bumrah, who is usually MI’s go-to bowler, has been targeted by opposition batters throughout the tournament. This has had a clear impact on the team’s overall performance.

Looking at MI’s journey this season, they started with a win against Kolkata Knight Riders. However, they then lost four matches in a row to Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings. They briefly bounced back with a win over Gujarat Titans but again faced defeats against Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad. A win against Lucknow Super Giants offered some relief but consistency has been missing.
With the season progressing, Mumbai Indians will need quick improvements if they want to turn things around.
