Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the man who changed the face of Indian cricket with his calm leadership and unmatched composure, continues to inspire millions. Though he bid farewell to international cricket on August 15, 2020, his love for the game keeps him going strong in the Indian Premier League. As the most capped player in the IPL history, Dhoni remains the heart and soul of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and there is a news for fans to rejoice, he’s not ready to hang up his boots yet.
CSK’s CEO Kasi Viswanath has confirmed that MS Dhoni will be part of the IPL 2026 season. While speaking in an interview, Kasi Viswanath mentioned that Mahi has no immediate plans to retire. When asked about the skipper’s future by a group of young fans, he said that MSD will continue playing in the next IPL and jokingly added that he would have to ask Dhoni himself about his exact retirement plans.

Kasi Viswanath also spoke about the team’s hopes for the upcoming season. He said that while CSK is fully prepared for the next IPL, victories can never be guaranteed, but the team will give its best effort to return stronger. His comments reflect the spirit that Dhoni has always embodied — commitment, hard work and humility.
The IPL 2025 season was a rare low point for Chennai Super Kings, as the team managed to win only four of their 14 matches and ended up at the bottom of the points table for the first time in 18 years. This disappointing performance has prompted CSK to consider a fresh start before the 2026 season.
Ravichandran Ashwin, who was signed for over ₹9 crore in the last mega auction, has announced his retirement from the IPL. The franchise is also likely to release several players, including Devon Conway, Deepak Hooda and Vijay Shankar, as they look to rebuild their squad.
When asked about potential new signings, Kasi Viswanath said that decisions will be made once the auction register is released, which is expected by the first week of December.
For now, CSK fans can breathe easy knowing that MS Dhoni, their beloved “Thala”, will continue to don the yellow jersey. His presence on the field remains a symbol of resilience and devotion, a reminder that true legends never really retire from the game they love.
