“Ise Virat Se Kya Problem Hai?” Netizens Lash Out At Gautam Gambhir For Supporting Nitin Menon

The Indian cricket team may have won the second test match which was played at Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi, by 6 wickets but there is no denying the fact that the Indian batting especially the top-order was not up to the mark and it was India’s middle and lower-order which ensured that the visitors did not get much advantage of the first innings.

The former Indian skipper Virat Kohli may have got his form back in the white-ball format but he is not able to play a big innings in test matches for a long time now. Fans of Virat are hoping to see him score a century in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 and the former skipper seemed to be in good touch in the first innings of the second test match but he was given out in a controversial manner.

In the 50th over of the Indian innings, Virat Kohli (44 runs) was given lbw out on the bowling of Matthew Kuhnemann by the on-field umpire Nitin Menon but the batter decided to go for a review as he was sure that the ball had touched the bat as well. The third umpire was not able to confirm whether the ball touched the bat first or the pad first even after watching the replays from different angles, the ball tracker showed that the ball would have touched the outer side of the leg stump because of which the third umpire upheld the decision of the on-field umpire which was out.

While majority of the former Indian cricketers including Wasim Jaffer were not happy with this decision as in their opinion, the benefit of doubt should go to the batter.

If we talk about the laws of the game, then if the ball touches the bat and the pad simultaneously, it should be accepted or considered that the ball touched the bat first.

However, the former cricketer Gautam Gambhir supported the on-field umpire Nitin Menon and said that he had taken the correct decision and nobody would have talked about it if Mohammed Shami had been given out on this delivery.

This made fans of Virat Kohli very angry and they slammed the cricketer turned politician for his comment. Here are some selected reactions:
