The way Piyush Mishra describes it, some performers leave a mark through sheer brilliance, some through their dedication, and then there is Ranbir Kapoor, someone who carries a legendary legacy but moves through life as if none of it belongs to him. Piyush Mishra recently opened up about this easy, unburdened charm that sets Ranbir apart from everyone he has worked with.

Thinking back to their time together on films like Rockstar and Tamasha, Piyush Mishra recalled how Ranbir Kapoor surprised him almost immediately. On set, Ranbir is focused and sincere but the moment the director calls “cut”, he seems to float. Piyush Mishra said he becomes light and effortless, free of any hint that he is part of one of cinema’s most influential families.

He even joked about how uninhibited Ranbir is (“Itna nanga besharam aadmi maine aaj tak nahi dekha!”), admitting he had never met anyone who could detach so easily from the massive history behind the Kapoor name. Despite coming from a line of icons stretching back to Prithviraj Kapoor, Ranbir never lets the weight of that lineage sit on his shoulders.

While remembering Ranbir Kapoor brought smiles, speaking about Irrfan Khan brought a different kind of silence. Piyush Mishra, who had worked with him in Haasil, still feels the loss deeply. Even though they weren’t extremely close, there was a quiet respect between them. They admired each other’s craft and that mutual acknowledgment created its own bond.

Piyush Mishra reflected on how young Irrfan Khan still was and how much more he could have given. He had heard countless stories about the kindness and warmth Irrfan carried, and he hoped that peace stays with him and strength stays with his family. Irrfan passed away in April 2020 due to complications from a rare cancer he had been battling for years, a loss that continues to echo through the film world.

Meanwhile, Ranbir Kapoor is back to work, currently shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War, where he stars alongside Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal. The film is already building anticipation but as Piyush Mishra’s words remind us, behind the star is someone quietly, effortlessly himself.
