Babar Azam has long been admired for his elegant batting and consistency across formats. As captain of Peshawar Zalmi, he continues to lead from the front but questions around his finishing ability still follow him, something he clearly isn’t pleased about.

That frustration was visible after Peshawar Zalmi’s thrilling last-ball win over Hyderabad Kingsmen in the PSL 2026. During a post-match interaction, Babar Azam was asked about comparisons with Virat Kohli and whether he lacks the same finishing ability. He dismissed the suggestion firmly, making it clear that such perceptions do not reflect the complete reality of the game.

When asked about improving his finishing skills, Babar Azam explained that cricket depends heavily on match situations rather than fixed roles. He emphasised that factors like required run rate, pitch conditions and game scenarios influence how a player approaches an innings. He also highlighted the importance of trusting one’s strengths and continuously improving, noting that growth in cricket is a gradual process.

Despite the criticism, Babar Azam pointed out that he has successfully finished many matches in his career, even if it is not always acknowledged by others. His focus remains on contributing to the team in whatever way the situation demands.

The match itself was a nail-biter. Babar Azam scored 43 runs off 37 balls, playing a key role in stabilising the chase. Peshawar Zalmi needed 14 runs in the final over and it was Iftikhar Ahmed who turned the game around with a four and a six off Hunain Shah, sealing a four-wicket victory.

With this win, Peshawar Zalmi secured their second victory of the PSL 2026 and climbed to fifth place on the points table. Meanwhile, Hyderabad Kingsmen continued their poor run, remaining seventh after losing all four of their matches.

In the end, Babar Azam may not have entertained the criticism much but his performance and leadership once again showed his value to the team.
