It might come to many as an utter surprise that Japan does not have any such thing like central heating and that’s why, as the winter season falls, almost all the individuals of the country opt for kotatsu.

You must be wondering what is kotatsu? Well, it’s a native piece of furniture, a hybrid of table, heater and blanket and it is only due to this awesome creation that Japanese enable themselves not to catch cold along with other health related problems in winter.

Kotatsu has a low wooden table frame and a heavy blanket or mattress covers it. On top, there’s a table and beneath is a built-in source of heat. Earlier, it used to be positioned in houses at one place only but modern kotatsu are movable.

Kotatsu is undoubtedly among the most amazing and resourceful inventions created to survive the winters. If any such thing is in India, winter evenings would be much enjoyable!
