Ten years ago, a young fast bowler with an unorthodox action stepped onto the international stage and Indian cricket has never been the same since. Jasprit Bumrah is celebrating a decade in international cricket today, marking ten years since he made his debut for India in a T20I against Australia on January 23, 2016. The milestone has prompted an outpouring of admiration and Jasprit Bumrah himself chose to reflect on the journey with a deeply personal message.

To commemorate the occasion, Jasprit Bumrah shared a video on social media that captured some of the most memorable moments of his career. The montage traced his rise from taking his first international wicket, dismissing Steve Smith, to lifting the 2024 men’s T20 World Cup as India’s Player of the Series. The video also showed emotional scenes from the victory parade in Barbados, followed by the grand celebrations in Mumbai when the team returned home, moments that summed up the scale of India’s triumph.
Along with the video, Jasprit Bumrah expressed gratitude for the support that carried him through years of challenges and doubt. He wrote, “10 years of living the dream of the child who fell in love with the sport that made him feel alive like nothing in this world ever could. The journey of going against assumptions, opinions and perceptions and keeping the belief alive continues, with the love and support of family and God. Waheguruji da shukr eda he baba ji mehraan bhariyaan hath rakheen. Satnam waheguru” (By the grace of Waheguru, thanks be to Him. May Baba Ji keep His blessings upon us. Satnam Waheguru.)

Jasprit Bumrah’s numbers over the last decade underline why he is widely regarded as India’s greatest fast bowler. In 52 Test matches, he has taken 234 wickets at an average of 19.79 with a strike rate of 42.87. His ODI record includes 149 wickets from 89 matches at an average of 23.55, while in 83 T20 Internationals, he has picked up 103 wickets at an impressive average of 18.17. He remains one of the rare bowlers with over 100 wickets in all the three formats.

His best figures of 9 for 86 in Tests, multiple five-wicket hauls and reaching the No. 1 spot in the ICC Test bowling rankings, a first for an Indian pacer, reflect a decade of sustained excellence at the highest level.
Congratulations Jasprit Bumrah! We hope to see him play for a long time.
