Last week, it was a proud moment for Jeff Bezos as he had surpassed Bill Gates to become the richest person in the world. However, this didn’t last long as Jeff was back on the 2nd position after few hours, as Amazon’s share prices fell.
Looks as if his 2nd position was also temporary. Now, the owner of girls’ favorite brand Zara has overtaken Jeff Bezos to become the 2nd richest man in the world. Yes, Amancio Ortega is on the 2nd position and Bezos is on the 3rd position now.
This happened on Monday as Bezos’ worth was recorded to be $84.1 billion i.e. $200 million lesser than Ortega, whose net worth happens to be $84.3 billion.
Amazon’s stock fell by 5 percent and Bezos lost around $6 billion overnight. This is what made it possible for Gates and Ortega to dethrone him from the 2nd position.
On the other hand, Ortega’s worth increased by $1.2 billion, as the stock of Zara saw a 1 percent rise.
Both, Ortega and Bezos have found it difficult to be at the 1st position for more than few hours. In October 2015, Ortega had surpassed Gates, but it didn’t last even for a day.
