A question that always manages to elude a Kajol fan in why did she end up marrying Ajay Devgn, that too when she was at the peak of her career. Their relationship was largely expected to be a failure due to their pole to pole contrasting personalities- Ajay was always a bit shy of the limelight and, Kajol on, the contrary was a vivacious live wire, almost bursting on edge of exuberance at times, but all the Kajol fans were in for a heartbreak when, in 1999, Ajay and Kajol tied the knot and walked the nuptials in a traditional Maharashtrian manner, thus finally culminating their four-year courtship into a marriage.
HOW IT CAME TO BE
As was revealed in a recent news article, Kajol and Ajay were on a set doing a shot together when it suddenly dawned upon Kajol that Ajay was going to play “an important part” in her life. At that time, Kajol was dating someone else, and ironic as it may sound, use to take a lot of dating advice from Ajay. To all those boys who are currently friend-zoned by their crushes and have lost all hope, do take note!
Also, their relationship never resorted to conventional platitudes like the incessant use of the phrase “I love you” but rather as Ajay pointed out “grew with each other”. What was also surprising to hear was the fact that a proposal never happened, and marriage too was never discussed, but somehow both felt that it was imminent.
THE WEDDING
On the 24th of February, many hearts sank in despair and sinister gloom. The wedding was a very simple affair, even to such an extent that no official photographer was hired and Ajay insisted that only he would be the one with the camera during the ceremony. Therefore, not many people managed to get all the gilt-edged photographs the paparazzi usually provides. Soon after the wedding, the bride and the groom were off to Europe, a site really familiar to all the Kajol fans.
THE OTHER SIDE
Kajol at that time was doing 4-5 movies a year and was at the zenith of her career. Not many women had managed to capture the imagination of the length and breadth of the country as she did. But she wanted to “calm down” and take it “easy on the professional front” and had decided to do only one film a year, a decision which did not go down well with media, and criticized her for slowing down when she had reached the peak. At present, she is busy playing mother to her two kids- Nysa and Yug, and because of that, her time on the silver screen has seriously dwindled. After the birth of her daughter in 2003, Kajol appeared in as little as 7 films and was last seen in Dilwale, will next be lending out her voice in Koochie Koochie Hota Hai, an animated movie to be produced under the banner of Dharma Productions.
