Kajol, one of the most acclaimed and beloved actresses of Bollywood, has had a long journey filled with many opportunities. Naturally, actors cannot accept every film offer and there can be different reasons behind it. In a recent interaction with an entertainment portal, she candidly shared that she had turned down the chance to be a part of the 2009 blockbuster 3 Idiots, directed by Rajkumar Hirani and starring Aamir Khan in the lead role.
Speaking about it, Kajol admitted that there have been several such instances in her career and jokingly cited 3 Idiots as a prime example. Despite missing out on what became a cultural phenomenon, she emphasised that she does not have any regrets. According to her, if a script does not speak to her, she does not hesitate to walk away from it. She believes that each film ultimately finds its rightful performer, adding that what is meant for someone will eventually reach them. In her words, she feels she has fared well without those projects.
3 Idiots went on to become one of the most influential Hindi films of its time, both critically and commercially. Loosely based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel Five Point Someone, the film explored the flaws in India’s rigid education system while delivering a powerful message through its narrative. Alongside Aamir Khan, the movie starred R. Madhavan and Sharman Joshi, whose performances were widely appreciated.
As for Kajol, she continues to take on new challenges. She is set to appear in Maa, an upcoming film directed by Vishal Furia and scheduled for release on June 27. The project is backed by Ajay Devgn, who also produced the recent hit Shaitaan, which starred both him and R. Madhavan. While Maa is being kept under wraps, it is said to share a thematic link with Shaitaan, adding to the anticipation around its release.
