Suresh Kalmadi, who was accused in Commonwealth Games corruption scandal was appointed as the Indian Olympic Association’s Life President. This controversial decision was taken in Chennai, where the Annual General Body Meeting was held.
Another corrupt official Abhay Singh Chautala was also appointed as the Life President. Kalmadi was the president of IOA from the year 1996 to 2011, but was then jailed for a period of 10 months, as he was involved in the Commonwealth Games corruption Scandal in 2010; later he was released on bail.
On the other hand, Chautala served as the Life President from December 2012 to February 2014, but later the International Olympic Committee suspended him.
Vijay Goel, the Sports Minister slammed the Indian Olympic Association for taking such a decision of making Chautala and Kalmadi as Life presidents; he said that the decision was totally unacceptable. Here’s the tweet by Vijay Goel!
