It was being said that Kamli is based on Sanjay’s real-life friend Paresh Ghelani but while talking to SpotboyE, Vicky said that Kamli is a combination of Dutt’s 3-4 friends and not just Paresh.

Vicky Kaushal said,

“I had met Pareshji, he had come once to meet Dutt sir when we were shooting.”

He added,

“The characterisation of Kamli in Sanju is pretty fictionalised but yes, the incidents between the two friends did happen. Kamli’s characterisation is an amalgamation of 3-4 friends of Dutt sir, it’s not Pareshji per se.”

Sanjay Dutt also took to Twitter and thanked Paresh for being his “pillar of strength”. The actor wrote, “@pareshghelani you are the pillar of my strength. Thank you for being there, then and now. Welcome to the world of social media buddy! Love you lots.”

Just a day before that, Paresh wrote a letter after watching the movie and posted it on social media as he made his debut on the medium.

Paresh wrote,

“Sanju is an ode to falling, rising, making mistakes and learning, flaws, imperfection – everything that defines the core of friendship. It is more importantly a relentless pursuit of life with all its shades. I know I share this sentiment with all friends and family close to him.”

The movie shows the moments shared by the two friends and how Kamli helped Sanjay when his relationship with his father turned sour. Vicky and Ranbir become good friends while shooting for the flick and when Vicky congratulated Ranbir on the film’s success, the latter expressed his desire to hug him.
