As Kolkata Knight Riders prepared for their IPL 2026 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday, head coach Abhishek Nayar made it clear that the team is not worried about short-term struggles. Instead, the focus remains firmly on long-term growth, especially when it comes to Australian all-rounder Cameron Green.

Speaking ahead of the game, Abhishek Nayar explained that KKR’s approach during auctions is never about quick results. The team looks at a player’s overall record, consistency over the years and the range of skills they bring. He made it clear that Cameron Green is a key part of their plans because of his ability as a cricketer and an all-rounder, and the team continues to believe in what he can deliver when at his best.
Abhishek Nayar also spoke about the importance of trust within the squad. He said that every player goes through ups and downs but the team’s belief does not change during tough phases. Using Varun Chakravarthy as an example, he pointed out that the spinner is currently in a good mental space, showing how a positive environment can help players stay confident. According to him, the dressing room atmosphere is built on backing players and staying optimistic, no matter the situation.

He further highlighted how T20 cricket has been changing rapidly over time. Abhishek Nayar explained that decisions in this format often depend on what the team needs at a particular moment. There is no fixed formula for success and what matters the most is having clear thinking and fully committing to the team’s plans.
Talking about the nature of the game, Abhishek Nayar said cricket is unpredictable, which is what makes it exciting. Conditions, pitch behaviour and opposition can all change the course of a match and teams must be ready to adapt. He added that while discussions about pitches always happen, KKR sees strong fan support at home as a major advantage.

In the end, he stressed that the team’s responsibility is to perform well in any condition and make the most of the backing they receive.
