Indian cricketer and captain of Indian Test team, Virat Kohli is one of the most talented cricketers at the present time and his fans want to know just everything about him. Virat gave an interview to former cricket player of England, Michael Vaughan, and some very interesting facts about Kohli have been revealed in this interview.
Virat told that he first met his ideal Sachin Tendulkar in the year 2008 when Master Blaster came to meet the Under-19 team but he didn’t remember anything that Sachin said at that time, as he was just staring at him for the whole time. After some years when Sachin and Virat went for drink, Virat initially hesitated and refused. This is how he depicts the incident:
“It is a very Indian thing in front of your seniors you do not want to admit you drink or go to parties. Guys were very strict about it when I was growing up. He asked me for a drink. I said I don’t drink. He persisted. I said I don’t drink. Eventually I said I will have four ice cubes. From then on it was pretty easy.”
When Virat was asked about his comparison with Sachin, he said,
“I tried to fight it initially. This country loves comparisons. The moment I started doing well I was already compared to him [Tendulkar] but it is like chalk and cheese in my book. People come up and have debate and say you can break his records. You fight it for a while. You think why me? There are 10 more people in the team why do I have to go through this?
He further added,
“There was so much persistence from the fans letting them know what they wanted from me. I stood on the boundary and all they say is they want a century from me. But then I realised that over a period of time, you set those benchmarks and those standards for yourself. It is part of being a cricketer in India. It is part of the package that people love you. If you run away from it, it is going to haunt you, pressurize you and pull you down. I started to appreciate it. After a while I thought these people love me, they want me to do well. It is just they have a different way of expressing it. I needed to process it in my head. It is important to have a set of people you connect to and in touch with regularly and not be friends with everyone and out there for everyone.”
When Michael asked about Virat’s fitness, he told that in IPL 2012, he was struggling hard because of his weight. He was overweight by 12-13 kgs, so he reduced his diet but sometimes he felt so hungry in nighttime that he wanted to eat bed sheets. Sounds unbelievable, doesn’t it?
Virat also talked about his England tour and told that he used to go for a walk alone. He also said that whenever he goes to play in a foreign country, he goes for a walk alone because even if the people there recognize him, they just wave at him. He likes the idea that they don’t interfere in his life.
Well, these are some very interesting secrets about Kohli that many of his fans might not be knowing and needless to say, fans love to read such stuffs about their idol!!
