Laundry Man Who Announced Free Ironing If India Wins Got A “Threat Call” From Pakistan

Indians are crazy for cricket and they have their own ways of celebrating the victory of India. The celebration gets more intense if the victory is over arch-rival Pakistan.

The ICC Champions Trophy is going on and the finals will be played between India and Pakistan. India has already defeated Pakistan in one of the league matches.

When India beaten Pak by 124 runs at Edgbaston, a fan from Agra named Azaad Diwakar who irons clothes for earning his livelihood gave a day of free service to all his customers. This time, if India defeats Pakistan in the finals, he has promised to give 5 days of free service to the local residents. But things went awry when he received a threat call allegedly from Pakistan. The caller asked him to withdraw his announcement otherwise he might have to face severe consequences.

Azaad who resides in the Pratapnagar Chouraha area which comes under the Jagdispura police jurisdiction had given 15 days of free laundry services to the local residents in 2011 after India won the World Cup 2011. Here’s what he said,

“On Wednesday late night, while I was having dinner with my family, I received a threat call from an unknown number. The caller identified himself as a Pakistan national, but did not reveal his name. I had announced to iron clothes for free for five days if India win Champions Trophy and even put a poster. Seeing my enthusiasm for the Indian team, local residents snapped pictures of my poster and me and circulated it on WhatsApp groups. Later, in the evening, a caller threatened me for dire consequences and asked me to withdraw the announcement.”

He further added,

“He first asked my name, then religion and later during conversation told me not to be over-enthusiast for the Indian team else I will face problems.”

On Thursday morning, Azaad registered a written complaint in Jagdispura police station and this is what the station officer Rajeshwar Tyagi said,

“We have received the complaint and have asked surveillance cell to trace the caller, as the call was made from voice over internet protocol.”

We really feel that police should take this matter seriously as no one has the right to tell us how we should celebrate. What do you say?
