Indian and foreign players, everyone has made great money this year and especially the team captains. However, to the surprise of many, it’s not Virat Kohli who is the highest earning captain in the world, but Australian captain Steve Smith.
As per a detailed study on the salaries of cricketers by ESPN Cricinfo, Virat Kohli earns $1 million per year from BCCI which is less than the $1.47 million per year earned by Australian Captain Steve Smith and $1.38 million per year by England’s Joe Root.
However, Virat is still the richest cricketer in the world thanks to the money he makes from IPL and all the brand endorsements.
BCCI is the most rewarding board in Test Cricket
The study has also smashed the perception that BCCI doesn’t reward the Indian Test Cricket players enough. It has been put as a fact that the board pays approximately $23,380 to Indian Cricketers per Test game which makes it highest paying governing body in the format. Also, if we compare them to what Australian cricketers receive, the payment is double.
Ravi Shastri is the highest paid coach in the world
With the salary of $1.17 million per year, Indian Coach Ravi Shastri is world’s highest paid coach. He is followed by Australian coach Darren Lehmann with a package of $0.55 million.
Who are the least paid in cricket?
As per the study, Pakistani team is among the worst paid in the cricket. You won’t believe it but highest earning Pakistani cricketers are earning less than Ireland’s highest-earning players. Here’s what the study says-
A player in Pakistan’s top contract bracket will be on an annual retainer ($74,014) that is marginally less than the top contract for an Ireland player ($75,000). Let that sink in (Ireland’s top salary retainer is also higher than those of Bangladesh and Zimbabwe). A player like Sarfraz Ahmed, Pakistan’s captain, will end up earning more in a year, of course – and he quadruples his base salary in 2017 – because he plays more often and plays across three formats.
