Maggi Just The Tip Of An Iceberg, Problem Is Much Deeper !!

Edible Oil Companies play a major role in the Indian Food Industry as edible oil is one of the most important parts of daily requirements. India offers a huge market jammed with potential and demand for edible oil companies.

We have heard about blended whiskeys. However have you heard about blended oils ? The packet claimed that it’s an Amla oil and subsequently when you looked closely, it read blended oil.  In similar case, the photo on the oil pack shows sesame and it says sesame oil, and then in a tiny font in a corner it says that it posseses sunflower oil too.  It’s becoming utterly confusing with newer oils slipping onto grocery shelves, how in the world does one decide what to pick up.

Cartoonist Mayank Patel has collected the cooking oil facts which might help you to evaluate yourself the oil purity before choosing any oil.

In India, the oil you utilize within your kitchen is basically depending on where you come from. In Kerala, it’s coconut oil, in Andhra and Rajasthan, it’s sesame oil, in the east and north they use mustard oil and in central India and Gujarat groundnut oil is used.

But everything changed in the 80’s with the scare of cholesterol and cardio disease. Overnight ghee became a bad name so we were advised that we should avoid transfats and sunflower oil became popular. That has been in the 90’s.But these days it’s a completely different story. You have got new types of oil spilling along the grocery shelves from around all over the world and each new bottle label brings with it a brand new health hope.
Oil behaves differently when heated, it changes texture, color, taste in addition to it’s nutritional properties. Whenever the oil reaches its smoking point, substantial amount of the nutrients are destroyed and it can often potentially form harmful compounds. Also, different oils have varying levels of fats – Polyunsaturated, Monounsaturated and Saturated fats. As per health advice total amount oil consumption shouldn’t cross 2 teaspoons per person each day.
Transfat doesn’t dissolve in body and it will increase transfat.
Palmolein considered cheaper in health dictionary and used mostly in India and Africa.
To provide relief to consumers, especially below poverty line households, Government provided loose ends towards the industry; the import of CPO crude palmoilenhas been increasing year by year. Industry has advantage to manipulate the blending laws to build up their profit.
