A day after Anil Mehta, stepfather of Bollywood actress Malaika Arora, allegedly d*ed by su*cide, it has been reported that he made a final phone call to his daughters, Malaika and Amrita Arora. According to preliminary information, Anil Mehta reached out to them just hours before his d*ath, saying, “I am sick and tired.” The sisters shared these details with the police while recording their statements.
Following the call, other family members attempted to contact Anil Mehta but his phone was found to be switched off. The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding his final words and planning to record statements from Anil Mehta’s doctor soon.
Anil Mehta allegedly committed su*cide on Wednesday morning by jumping from the balcony of his building, resulting in a broken leg. Sources indicate that he had a routine of sitting on the balcony and reading the newspaper every morning. His ex-wife Joyce revealed to the police that though they were divorced, they had been living together again in recent years. On the morning of his d*ath, Joyce noticed Anil Mehta’s slippers in the living room and went to the balcony to look for him. When she could not find him there, she leaned over to see below and found the building’s watchman shouting for help. Joyce also mentioned that Anil Mehta was not suffering from any illness, apart from knee pain, and had taken voluntary retirement from the Merchant Navy.
Malaika Arora later issued an official statement requesting privacy from the media and well-wishers during this difficult time. The statement read, “We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dear father, Anil Mehta. He was a gentle soul, a devoted grandfather, a loving husband, and our best friend. Our family is in deep shock by this loss, and we kindly request privacy from the media and well-wishers during this difficult time. We appreciate your understanding, support, and respect.”
