These days, “Fraud” companies have grown in number and they try all possible ways to loot you; their schemes are so lucrative that for a second, you actually feel like trusting them.
However, some shocking incidents have come to light and after reading them, you’ll actually feel like a fool. Have you ever received messages which say, “Congrats, you have won an LED TV worth Rs 30,000 as a gift. Shop for an “XYZ product” worth Rs 3,099 and claim the gift”? Now, how is it even possible to get an LED TV in just Rs 3,000? This is all what the fraud companies do.
They attract you by saying that you have won an assured gift and later, what they send is totally disappointing. Today, we are here to discuss one such incident of a youngster who lost his Rs 3580 due to false claims of an “Assured gift”.
A company promised him that he’ll get a Samsung J7 phone for free (Because he was the winner according to them) and asked him to pay an amount of Rs 3850 to claim it. In return, they sent him a Laxmiji idol.
What exactly happened?
Santosh Sitaram, a resident of Silwad, received a call and the person on the other line, who claimed to be from Delhi, congratulated him by saying that Airtel company has announced a prize for him. Yes, he told Santosh that he has been selected as the lucky winner of the year.
The fraudster convinced him by saying that Airtel company announces a winner every year and this time his name was chosen. He promised Santosh that he would be receiving a Samsung Galaxy J7 phone.
He asked Santosh for his address and said that the parcel would reach him through post office. Not only this, he also told Santosh that the mobile would come along with a mobile insurance, which will prove to be helpful in cases of mobile damage. Also, the company told him that he would be receiving a PIN number and only after entering it, the phone would start.
Overexcited Santosh didn’t realize that it was a fraud call. He shared all the necessary details on that mobile number and waited for the gift. After 5 days, he received a call from the same number saying, “Your parcel has reached, kindly deposit Rs 3850 to claim the same”. Once again, Santosh failed to realize that they are looting him. He went to the post office, deposited the amount and took the parcel home.
He was shocked to see that the box contained an idol of Laxmiji instead of a Samsung Galaxy J7 mobile. Santosh immediately called up that number and told them that he received an idol and not a handset. Initially, the company said that it’s not possible, but later, they said that he would receive a refund through money order.
Obviously, the refund is not going to come back; such incidents are a lesson that you don’t need to trust each and every call that you get. This is the latest trend of fooling people and shelling out money from them.
