It’s said that there’s no shortcut of success except hard work that always pays off and this can be stated with absolutely no fear of contradiction.
The saying seems to be utterly true in case of 40-yr Tapeshwar Singh, a migrant from Bihar who made way to Meerut for livelihood. There also he could get only small jobs which could earn the man and his wife a meagre amount required just to carry out their daily lives.
The only thing that used to give Tapeshwar pleasure and strength to work with full spirit the next day was the loving smile of wife Babita. However, as luck would have it, she got missing one day in February, unexpectedly and all of a sudden, leaving the man alone and distressed.
The couple had been married for 3 yrs and ever since she went missing, the dedicated husband tracked all the leads on a rickety cycle for finding his wife.
For more than eight long months, he had been looking for her but it was creditable on his part that not even for a day, he lost hope. There have been days when the man didn’t eat anything but nothing could shake his firm determination and will power.
He saw a ray of hope finally one day when he was informed of an intermediary who said to have bought Babita for the purpose of human trafficking; however, due to her mental state, the deal couldn’t be finalized. Challenges and difficulties kept on coming his way but he was nowhere to be stopped until he got reunited with his wife.
An FIR had been filed but she could not be found. His hard work finally paid off when one day a person from Brijghat informed him of having seen Babita begging in Haridwar. He at once made way to Uttarakhand and guess what, miracle happened!
“I first rubbed my eyes in disbelief. She was covered just in tatters, but it was her. Her sight almost paralyzed me.”
Talking about his sacrifices, Tapeshwar said,
“For eight months I had searched for her day and night. I spent every penny I had saved in the last decade on a journey that sometimes seemed futile. But there she was.”
He added,
“I know she has a weak mental makeup and understand that it makes her more vulnerable to abuse. That made me anxious, but also determined to find her. On Sunday, a man at Brajghat contacted me and said he thought he saw Babita begging in Haridwar. I immediately set out for Uttarakhand. I searched for her the entire day in Haridwar, but with little success. Quite late in the evening as I was wondering what to do next, I spotted her. We are going home now.”
When Babita was asked as to how she came so far, she replied that she had no idea about it; however, she had been searching for Tapeshwar too.
