After fairness creams were pulled out from shelves by Maharashtra FDA for the use of steroids, Emami Fair and Handsome has been slammed by a district consumer forum in New Delhi, since it didn’t help Nikhil Jain become handsome and fair.
The cream was brought by Nikhil on the 8th of October 2012 on the advice of ‘SRK’, the brand ambassador of the cream. In this ad, SRK claims that you can become fair in just 3 weeks. Obviously, he didn’t become fair since these fairness creams don’t work. He stated that ‘huge mental injury’ was caused to him and hence, he filed complaint with the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum.

Nikhil and his brother Paras took the decision of challenging this unfair trade practice and Paras represented this case before the forum for a period of 2.5 years. This week, a Punitive Damages penalty of Rs.15 lakhs was imposed by the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum on Emami company.
Apart from that, Emami has been asked to withdraw its misleading ads.
