Manoj Tiwary pointed out that Gambhir’s decisions have not aligned with his public statements; he further questioned his ability to deliver results even after securing his preferred staff.

Gautam Gambhir replaced Rahul Dravid as India’s head coach earlier this year. His coaching staff included Abhishek Nayar and Morkel as assistant coaches, with Ryan ten Doeschate as the fielding coach. Nayar and ten Doeschate had previously worked with Gambhir during Kolkata Knight Riders’ IPL 2024 victory, while Morkel had collaborated with him at Lucknow Super Giants.

Manoj Tiwary stated, “Why did I call him a hypocrite (in an earlier interview on Thursday)? It is because of one of his interviews if you remember in one of the interviews, he said, ‘All these foreign coaches, all the guys who come from abroad, have no emotions, they have no feelings. They earn money and enjoy themselves.’ When the time was there for him to select all the Indian coaches and all the Indian-origin support staff, why did he put forward the names of Ryan ten Doeschate and Morne Morkel? He got everything he wanted but he is not able to produce the results. Actions don’t match his words, so I called him a hypocrite.”

Since the coaching change, India has won just 3 out of 10 Tests, suffering a 3-0 whitewash against New Zealand at home and a 3-1 loss to Australia. Additionally, India lost 2-1 in an ODI series against Sri Lanka.

Manoj Tiwary initially criticised Gambhir’s appointment, suggesting that his IPL 2024 success with KKR was not enough to justify the national team role. However, he also acknowledged that coaching requires time and growth, emphasising that results will only improve if Gambhir learns from his mistakes and adapts. Manoj Tiwary also questioned how long Gambhir would be retained if improvements were not seen.
