Yes, it suddenly declared several people dead, even if they weren’t. This didn’t happen with 1 or 2 people but with “2 million people”
Facebook greeted many people with a tribute message, when they visited the profiles of family and friends; not only this, some were shocked to see that their own accounts were memorialized.
For instance if the profile name was Shruti, Facebook declared her dead and displayed the message “Remembering Shruti. We hope people who love Shruti will find comfort in the things others share to remember and celebrate her life”. One user shared the Screenshot of her profile on Twitter; have a look…

Obviously, later on the technical team solved this “Terrible error” and things got normal. Yes, as soon as Facebook got to know about this error, an apology message was sent to everyone. A spokesperson of Facebook stated “For a brief period, a message meant for memorialised profiles was mistakenly posted to other accounts,”
