One such Math problem has driven the netizens crazy ever since it started doing rounds on Facebook several months ago after Randall Jones, a Facebook user, posted it!

Here’s the post shared by Randall Jones from Columbus, Ohio:

The post got more than 500k likes, about 140k shares and 3.1 million comments since then and surprisingly, it doesn’t have one but two different answers and you can’t be sure which one is correct!!

Take a look at the problem once again:

riddle1

Here it is:

1 + 4 = 5

2 + 5 = 12

3 + 6 = 21

8 + 11 = ?

A number of people are of the opinion that the correct answer is 96 but at one fell swoop, many believe the answer to be 40. Can you tell which one is correct and why?

There are two methods of solving this problem:

First Method:

Just add solution of the previous line to the next line’s numbers and the answer is here:

1 + 4 = 5

5 + 2 + 5 = 12

12 + 3 + 6 = 21

21 + 8 + 11 = 40

The answer you get after solving the problem by this method is 40 but there is one more way to find out the solution!

Second Method:

Multiply the second number by the first one and then add result to the first number.

1 + (1 x 4) = 5

2 + (2 x 5) = 12

3 + (3 x 6) = 21

8 + (8 x 11) = 96

And this way, the answer is 96.

Which one is more accurate and correct according to you and why? Let us know in the comments section below.
