Ravi Shastri and BCCI’s 4-member committee have appointed Bharat Arun as the bowling coach of India. Yes, he will lead the team with regards to bowling till World Cup 2019.

Earlier, the CAC had suggested Zaheer Khan’s name as the bowling coach, but BCCI termed it as “Mere recommendation”. Now, BCCI has declared Bharat Arun’s name and his 1st assignment will start with India’s upcoming tour in Sri Lanka.

1) He was born on 14 Dec 1962 in Vijaywada, Andhra Pradesh.

2) His full name is “Bharathi Arun”, but as per records, his name is “Bharat Arun.”

3) Being born and brought up in Vijaywada, Bharat Arun was just 20, when he started playing for Tamil Nadu.

4) Bharat Arun was a medium-pacer; however, he had made a huge contribution to Tamil Nadu’s Ranji Trophy in the year 1986-1987. In Duleep trophy semi-final, he scored 149 by batting at 8th position

5) In India’s (Under-25 team) Sri Lanka tour in 86-87, Arun took 3 wickets for 113 runs and also hit a whopping 107 not out. This is the reason, he was chosen for Test series and he played his first test match on 17th Dec 1986.

6) He played just 2 test matches and 4 ODIs. Yes, it’s surprising that he didn’t continue with his cricketing career and left it very soon.

7) In 1992, Bharat Arun retired from all cricket forms.

8) He started coaching in the year 2002. Under his guidance, the Tamil Nadu team reached Ranji Trophy finals twice, once in 2003 and then in 2004.
