A range of new products was unveiled by Google at San Francisco’s event, but what caught the attention of all was its all new Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones. Yes, after a series of leaks and rumors, Google has officially announced it.
Pixel is the 1st flagship of Google, which isn’t under the ‘Nexus Brand’. Both the phones have many similar characteristics, although not all are the same. Since Pixel doesn’t have a custom UI, it is a very pure version of Android and soon, updates might be rolled out. Although the phones are from HTC, it is Google who takes credits under its brand.
Display and design!
These handsets sport a glass and aluminum frame and are available in color variants like ‘Really Blue’, ‘Very Silver’ and ‘Quite Black’. While the Pixel sports a 5-inch AMOLED display with 1080p resolution, Pixel XL has a 5.5 inch Quad HD one. Moreover, they come in storage variants of 32GB and 128GB respectively.
Operating system!
Talking about the OS, the phones would run on the platform Android 7.1 Nougat. Coming to the processor, the handsets are powered by Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor coupled with 4GB RAM.
Camera!
You are going to have a wonderful camera experience with Pixel lineup. 12.3 megapixel rear camera with Sony IMX378 sensor and 8 megapixel front camera, with f/2.0 aperture and 1.55 micron pixels is what Pixel sports. Google boasts of its camera having the shortest capture time as compared to any other mobiles. Although it misses on the optical image stabilization feature, the camera has gyroscope based video stabilization.
Connectivity!
Users can avail latest update roll-outs from Google directly. Moreover, Pixel sports connectivity options such as USB Type C port, Wi-Fi Calling and LTE (Cat-9-12). There is also a 24 hour live phone support, wherein Google’s technician would monitor your screen live in case of issues. There is inclusion of Google Duo video messaging app too.
Battery!
Pixel is fuelled by a 2770 mAh battery with fast charging technology and Pixel XL is fuelled by a 3,450mAh battery. Charging is super-quick i.e. you will get 7 hours of charging within 15 minutes only.
Unlimited storage!
If you regularly use Google Photos, then there is good news for you; a backup of the images can be taken without paying a single rupee. Yes, these phones are going to offer unlimited backups of videos and photos of high resolution. By this we mean that even those 4K videos, which consume too much space. Moreover, it even offers ‘Smart Storage’, which means that if the phone realizes that there is shortage of space, it would pick up the files and shift it to Cloud.
Google Assistant!
These Pixel phones are the 1st ones to get in-built Google Assistant, the smart assistant. All you need to do is long press the home button and it would be right there. Whenever you search some word, Google Assistant would quickly jump in and bring photos or music from the past. Restaurant reservations too are possible with this.

Pre-order would start from the 13th of October and actual availability would be from the 20th of October. If you want to shop online, they would be available exclusively on Flipkart. On the other hand, they would be available in over 1000 multi-brand stores along with leading partners like Croma, Reliance Digital and Vijay Sales.
