The technology giant Microsoft has offered a salary package of nearly Rs. 1.5 crore p.a. to a student of IIT-Kanpur, who basically belongs to Delhi. As per sources, this is the highest salary package that a student has got in the history of the esteemed institution.
The student will be posted at Redmond headquarters of Microsoft and he will be designing the software, implementing it and also fixing the bug, if any.
His base pay will be $136000 (Rs 94 lakh) while he will be getting paid $70,000 for relocation, medical and visa charges and stock ownership options. If joining bonus and annual bonus is taken into account, his salary comes out to be Rs. 1.5 crore. The highest salary package that was offered to a student last year at IIT-Kanpur was Rs. 93 lakh.
The excited student who didn’t want to reveal his identity said,
“This is really exciting. Software once again has turned out to be the flavour of the placements.”
Prof Syam Nair, the placement officer said this when TOI contacted him,
“I am not going to comment anything on the salary packages.”
If we believe the sources, 200 companies are going to visit the campus for placements this year; however, this number was 280 last year. Sources from the institute further reveal that there is a rise in placements in trading firms as Flow Traders from Amsterdam has come for the first time while those companies which deal in reservoir characterization, drilling, production and processing to the oil and natural gas industry like Transocean and Schlumberger are not coming this year.
The e-commerce firms like Paytm, Ola, Amazon and Uber have also visited the campus but Uber has not made any recruitment till now.
