On Wednesday, BBC released the list of 100 most influential women 2017 and it was definitely a proud moment for India to find some Indian women making it to the list!
As per the release,
“The list has been inspired by the BBC 100 Women Challenge. New for 2017 this is a unique celebration of female talent which sees four teams of women tasked with finding solutions to everyday problems currently blighting female lives across the globe.”
The women will come together in four teams, share experiences and create innovative methods of tackling problems. These teams are:
The glass ceiling – #Teamlead
Female illiteracy – #Teamread
Street harassment – #Teamgo
Sexism in sport – #Teamplay
Mithali Raj is among the most influential Indian women:
Mithali Raj, the skipper of women’s cricket team of India who led the team to ICC Women’s WC 2017 final, is also featured in the list. Mithali has given 18 yrs of her life to Indian women cricket and it won’t be incorrect to say that she is one of the reasons which made cricket popular among women in India. She has a huge fan following and the way she has been inspiring the youngsters is just awesome.
Mithali is the highest run scorer with more than 6,000 runs in the women’s cricket. In fact, she is known as the Tendulkar of Indian women cricket, as she is the highest run scorer for India in all the formats – ODIs, Test Matches and T20i. Mithali has led the Indian team in the World Cup Final in 2005 and 2017; however unfortunately, the team was not able to win the finals.
There is no doubt that Mithali’s determination to make big in the field of cricket has benefitted Indian women cricket to a great extent and she completely deserves to be in the BBC’s list of 100 most influential women 2017. She is in #Teamplay.

As per the release,
“The challenge will be coming to Delhi from October 9-13 where a team will be are looking at female illiteracy. Other places hosting the 100 Women Challenge are Silicon Valley from October 2-6, where a group will tackle the glass ceiling; safety on public transport will be the focus for the London and Nairobi team from October 16-20. From October 23-27, women in Rio will consider sexism in sport.”
It’s great to see women making a place for themselves in the society rather than remaining as the weaker sex. What do you have to say in this connection?
