This Is What Modi Government Has To Say About Udta Punjab V/s Censor Board Controversy

Since a while now, the controversy surrounding ‘Udta Punjab’ has taken the country by storm. The Censor Board won’t pass the film, until the makers agree to the changes demanded by it. Yes, the board has demanded 89 cuts only after which it would give ‘A’ certification! Moreover, we also saw a war of words between Pahlaj Nihalani, the chief of CBFC and Anurag Kashyap, the producer of the movie.

Political parties have stated that Nihalani has a connection with Modi government and also feel that the government is curbing freedom of speech! AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal said that Pahlaj is doing all this on the directions given by BJP. He also tweeted,

Now on all these controversies, Modi Government finally has an answer!

Ravi Shankar Prasad, the Union Minister For Communications and Information Technology states that the government supports as well as celebrates freedom of speech. Moreover, he clarified that the government is in no way involved in the CBFC process. Talking about Nihalani’s statement i.e. “Proud to be a Modi chamcha”, Prasad stated that;

“I think such comments need to be avoided. Our pradhan mantra describes himself as pradhan sevak of the country, and I don’t think the pradhan sevak needs any sycophants.”

On the other hand, Anurag Kashyap tried calling Arun Jaitley, the I&B Minister, but didn’t get any response.
