Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Rizwan has sought answers from the National Cyber Crime Investigation Authority (NCCIA) over an ongoing inquiry involving him, while also demanding the return of his mobile phone.
The Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter has accused the NCCIA of giving misleading information about his phone. He has also asked the agency to provide written details about the investigation and explain why his device has still not been returned.
The NCCIA reportedly began investigating Rizwan over allegations linked to betting and leaks from the dressing room. The development came after Rizwan was sent home midway through Pakistan’s Test tour of England following poor performances in the first two matches.
The NCCIA operates under Pakistan’s interior minister Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
According to a local news channel, Rizwan made these claims in his second letter to the NCCIA. He said he had not received any official written information about the investigation and had not been contacted about any further proceedings. His letter came after the NCCIA reportedly told the media that Rizwan was not cooperating with the investigation and warned that further action could be taken against him.
Rizwan said his mobile phone was taken by authorities in England on August 31. He claimed that he gave them the password at the time and allowed them to examine the device in his presence. According to Rizwan, officials told him that the phone would be returned within three hours. However, he said the NCCIA has still not returned the device.
The 34-year-old also said that when he appeared before the NCCIA on September 10, officials were able to access his unlocked phone and check his messages and other information. Because of this, Rizwan maintained that he had never refused to provide his password. He further claimed that officials had told him the digital forensic examination of his phone would be completed soon.
Rizwan has now asked the NCCIA to provide written reasons for opening the investigation and inform him about the date and time of his next appearance. He has also demanded that his mobile phone be returned without further delay. In addition, Rizwan requested that all future communication regarding the case be made through official channels and sent to his residential address.
