A blazing start from Mohammed Siraj turned heads as Gujarat Titans faced Punjab Kings in Match 46 of the Indian Premier League 2026 at Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday.
After winning the toss, captain Shubman Gill chose to bowl first and the decision paid off immediately. Mohammed Siraj scripted history by becoming the first Gujarat Titans bowler to take two wickets in the very first over of an IPL match.
He struck on the opening over by removing Priyansh Arya, who mistimed a shot toward deep backward point. Debutant Nishant Sindhu impressed with a sharp diving catch. On the very next ball, Siraj delivered again, dismissing Cooper Connolly for a duck. The batter tried to review the decision but technology confirmed a faint edge, leaving Punjab in serious trouble early on.

Punjab Kings struggled to recover as Gujarat’s pace attack, including Jason Holder and Kagiso Rabada, kept things tight. The team slipped to 47 for 5 within nine overs, with disciplined bowling and consistent pressure breaking their momentum.
A fightback came through a solid partnership between Suryansh Shedge and Marcus Stoinis. Suryansh Shedge played a confident knock of 57 runs in 29 balls, building a crucial 79-run stand with Marcus Stoinis, who scored 40. Suryansh Shedge accelerated quickly, especially targeting Manav Suthar in a big over to reach his fifty .
However, Kagiso Rabada soon ended Suryansh Shedge’s innings, triggering another collapse. Late contributions from Marco Jansen helped Punjab Kings push their total to 163 for 9 but it still looked below par after their early setbacks.
